Vogelverschrikkerfestival is a free, community-focused arts festival held in Valkenswaard, in the Dutch province of Brabant. Taking place every two years during the autumn school holidays, it brings the town to life for ten days with music, theatre, cabaret and a lively programme of activities. At its centre is a distinctive exhibition of around 100 scarecrows, created by artists, local residents and other participants.
Visitors can also take part in a scarecrow-making competition, while performers and activities spread across locations throughout the town. The festival’s main site is Van Bestpark, with other events making use of Valkenswaard’s wider community spaces. Its mix of unusual creations, live entertainment and open participation gives the event its playful, unconventional character.
Admission is free, made possible with support from sponsors and partners. Vogelverschrikkerfestival shares programme information, festival news, visitor guidance and details about the scarecrow creations through its website. After its 2025 edition, the festival invited visitors to return in 2027
