About Volendams Museum
Volendams Museum is a cultural museum dedicated to the history and heritage of Volendam, focusing on life in the fishing village from 1850 to 1950. Visitors can explore historic home interiors and learn about the internationally recognised Volendam traditional costume. The museum also features the Cigar Band Museum and a changing programme of exhibitions, offering fresh perspectives on local art, community life and culture.
Current and recent exhibitions explore subjects including women artists, the lasting impact of the 2001 New Year’s Eve café fire, and a century of Volendam’s music, from The Cats and BZN to contemporary performers. The museum also provides a genealogy service: visitors can request research into their Volendam family history and attend a private explanation with relatives. Groups and businesses can find visitor information, while guests can check opening hours, prices, directions and parking details or book tickets online. Located on Zeestraat in Volendam, the museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is wheelchair accessible. It is operated by Stichting Volendams Museum.
