Volker Moritz

Volker Moritz is an ecological and biological consultancy based in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, founded in 1993 by biologist Volker Moritz. After completing around 1,500 projects with his team through 2021, Moritz has focused primarily on ornithological work since January 2022. His services include bird surveys, long-term wildlife monitoring and environmental consulting for public authorities, municipalities, businesses, associations and private clients.

Ornithological studies cover breeding and visiting bird populations, including territory mapping and assessments of population trends in protected areas and compensation sites. Areas of particular expertise include meadow and reed-bed birds, geese and ducks, and non-native species. Long-term monitoring tracks bird numbers and breeding success across the same sites over multiple years. Related work includes habitat improvement and compensation concepts, data for mowing management, and checks and maintenance of bat roosts.

Consulting supports nature conservation planning and addresses conflicts involving wildlife, including wind farm projects and problematic bird settlements. Moritz also has extensive experience safeguarding harrier nests in crop fields and monitoring meadow-breeding birds.
