VOLO

VOLO Haarlem, short for Voor Onze Lichamelijke Ontwikkeling, is a sports association founded in 1949. Affiliated with the Dutch gymnastics and volleyball federations, it offers activities for children and other members, with a focus on physical development, enjoyment and a welcoming atmosphere. Its programme includes volleyball and a range of gymnastics classes: parent-and-child sessions, preschool gymnastics, recreational gymnastics, girls’ gymnastics for ages 6–9 and 9–12, and competitive girls’ gymnastics. All classes take place at the sports hall on Eksterlaan/Jephtastraat in Haarlem.

Beyond regular lessons, VOLO brings members together through demonstrations, friendly competitions, children’s celebrations, youth sports and games events, and an annual cycling or walking outing followed by a barbecue and social evening. The association also publishes a quarterly newsletter with event reports, upcoming activities and news. VOLO encourages children to take part regardless of family finances and points eligible families towards support from the Jeugdfonds Sport en Cultuur. Prospective young participants can also try four lessons through the Jeugdsportpas before deciding whether to join.
