Voluntários do Sertão is a volunteer-led social initiative dedicated to bringing health care, support and dignity to underserved communities in Brazil. For more than 25 years, the project has organized medical and volunteer caravans to reach families with limited access to health services and other essential support. Its activities include consultations, examinations and social assistance, delivered with the help of health professionals, other volunteers and partner organizations. The initiative reports having impacted more than 500,000 people, with over 3,000 volunteers participating in its work.
Alongside its health-focused services, Voluntários do Sertão promotes citizenship and community connection through projects in cities across the country. Health professionals and people who want to help with organization can apply to volunteer, while communities can register their city to be considered for a future service campaign. Donations help sustain the actions, and organizations can also become partners. Through these efforts, the project aims to bring practical care and hope to people who need it most.
