Vrijwilligersrab

Database Akten West-Vlaanderen is a volunteer-led genealogical resource focused on historical records from West Flanders, Belgium. Created by the Vrijwilligersrab team, the site helps family historians explore indexed and transcribed documents from parish registers, civil records, archives, and other historical collections. Its resources cover baptisms, marriages and burials, as well as births, marriages and deaths recorded by civil authorities. Researchers can also consult materials such as wills and guardianship records, court and criminal registers, population censuses, notarial documents, historical maps, name indexes, and records relating to military service and migration.

The website provides tools and reference information to support historical research, including a vocabulary guide, calendar conversion information, and guidance on accessing archival microfilms and documents. It also points users to digitised parish and civil registers available through Belgium’s AGATHA archive platform, where free registration is required to view images. Database Akten West-Vlaanderen continues to expand its collections and invites public support to help maintain and develop the resource without advertising.
