The Verband Unabhängiger Kunstsachverständiger e.V. (VUKS) is a professional association founded in 2004 to connect clients with qualified, experienced and trusted art experts. Its members provide services independently of the art trade and commit to discretion, neutrality and professional ethics. They avoid pursuing interests beyond their clients’ assignments and reject unethical commissions.
VUKS experts work across a broad range of fields, including African and East Asian art, architecture, photography, painting, sculpture, prints, digital and electronic art, furniture, textiles, jewellery, restoration and more. Their services include consultation, cataloguing and inventory, technical examination, authenticity assessments, valuation, forgery detection, conservation planning, and reports on restoration, damage and legal matters. They also advise private collectors and museum institutions on individual artworks, archives and collections.
The association was established to provide reliable expertise in a complex art market, drawing on specialist knowledge and scientific and art-historical examination methods. VUKS has been a member of the German Art Council since 2008 and cooperates with the German Museums Association and the Working Group on Provenance Research.
