What We DoWe help communities and private investors create mutually beneficial agreements to develop community-owned land This is done through the facilitation of partnerships between land reform beneficiary communities and investors, who come together to negotiate and agree on mutually beneficial arrangements that enable restituted land remain productive and economically active. Read more Previous slide Next slide Projects and Impact Vumelana in the news Latest News on Land How It All StartedThe Business Trust and the Maruleng and Bushbuckridge Economic Development Initiative The Maruleng and Bushbuckridge Economic Development Initiative (MABEDI) aimed to pilot a market-based approach to economic development. Part of this initiative focused on working with land reform beneficiary communities responsible for the management of land acquired under the Land Reform Programme.In the end, MABEDI benefitted 3 300 families and created 4 975 jobs. About VumelanaAdvisoryFund
Vumelana Advisory Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to partnering with communities in the Land Reform Programme to develop their land. Their goal is to demonstrate the value of markets and partnerships in increasing access to productive land and improving land tenure. By funding advisory services, Vumelana facilitates the creation of commercially viable partnerships between communities and investors, resulting in job creation, income generation, and skill development.
Since 2012, Vumelana has received over 450 inquiries from communities seeking support for Community Private Partnerships. They have successfully concluded 23 partnership agreements, attracting approximately R800 million of investment and creating or saving over 2,300 jobs. Currently, 14 projects are underway.
Vumelana operates by fostering agreements, contracts, and support between commercial partners and communities, ensuring the development of sustainable partnerships.
