Waardig Wonen

Waardig Wonen is a care organization offering small-scale, home-like accommodation and support for people living with dementia in Groningen and Winschoten. Its aim is to help residents continue everyday life with dignity, familiar routines and as much personal choice as possible. Each home accommodates five residents, who have their own furnished-to-their-taste rooms alongside shared living and kitchen spaces and an outdoor terrace. A professional team provides round-the-clock care and attention, with two staff members present each day; a general practitioner supports residents’ medical needs and can involve specialists when needed.

Daily life is shaped around residents’ habits and preferences, from meals and household activities to relaxing, games and time outdoors. Waardig Wonen serves people with dementia who have the required long-term care indication. Accommodation costs cover items such as the room, services, cleaning, meals and laundry, while care and support are funded through a personal budget. The organization also operates De Opstap, a temporary guesthouse in Groningen for people needing short-term accommodation, including when family caregivers need respite or after a hospital stay.
