WABE Deutschfreiburg

WABE Deutschfreiburg is a volunteer association dedicated to accompanying people through serious illness, dying and bereavement. Its guiding principle, “Be present, take time,” reflects a commitment to offering attentive support during periods marked by questions, worries and emotional strain. Trained volunteers provide bedside companionship for people who are seriously ill or approaching the end of life, helping them and their loved ones through a difficult part of the journey.

The association also offers support to people who are grieving, including a grief café held at Café Bijou at Stiftung ssb in Tafers. WABE’s work serves the Seebezirk and Laupen region, as well as the Sensebezirk and German-speaking Saanebezirk. Its contact numbers for requests about bedside visits are available around the clock, including weekends and outside office hours.

Because the service relies on volunteers, it cannot guarantee that every request can be matched, but it aims to cover enquiries and encourages people to get in touch early. WABE also provides a basic course, further education, and membership opportunities
