WADAN

The Welfare Association for the Development of Afghanistan (WADAN) is an Afghan-led, government-registered nongovernmental organization established in 2002 and based in Kabul. Working across all 34 provinces, the organization aims to support a peaceful, educated, drug-free, democratic, and prosperous Afghanistan. Its mission focuses on democratic principles, social justice, human rights, stronger communities and local governance, and drug-control initiatives. WADAN works with government ministries, community organizations, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders to deliver its programs.

Its main areas of work include education, health, community development, emergency response, and social protection. Education initiatives provide learning opportunities and resources for marginalized students, including community-based education in remote areas. Health programs include healthcare support and drug demand reduction, with prevention and services intended to address addiction. Community development projects engage local populations and support well-being and livelihoods. During emergencies, WADAN provides assistance such as food, financial support, and hygiene supplies, while social protection programs help vulnerable people rebuild their lives. The organization also supports healthcare training and other institutional development activities.
