About WAITINGROOM
WAITINGROOM is a contemporary art gallery located in Tokyo, Japan. Since its opening in 2010 in the neighborhood of Ebisu, WAITINGROOM has been dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge contemporary art across various mediums. In 2017, the gallery relocated to the Edogawabashi and Kagurazaka area.
The gallery focuses on introducing emerging artists who offer unique perspectives and express new ideas and concepts through their artworks. In addition to the gallery space, WAITINGROOM actively organizes talk events, symposiums, and workshops to provide ongoing platforms for discussions related to art. WAITINGROOM aims to break the barrier of the traditional gallery experience by creating a welcoming atmosphere that fosters natural conversations between viewers, gallery staff, and artists.
The name WAITINGROOM reflects this ethos, emphasizing a space where visitors can comfortably engage with art. The gallery is easily identifiable by its red postal box and faded POST OFFICE signage, remnants of its past as a post office. With its commitment to pushing boundaries and encouraging dialogue, WAITINGROOM continues to be a dynamic presence in the contemporary art scene.
Visit the gallery at 2-14-2 Nagashima Building 1F, Suicho, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 112-0005. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM (closing at 5:00 PM on Sundays) with Mondays, Tuesdays, and public holidays being closed
