The West Australian Kendo Renmei (WAKR) is an incorporated organisation that supports the development and practice of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo across Western Australia. As an affiliate of the Australian Kendo Renmei, it represents the interests and goals of local practitioners in dealings with other states, government authorities and organisations. The WAKR coordinates club activities and community involvement, aiming to make Western Australia a welcoming regional centre for Japanese martial arts.
Through its network of clubs, the WAKR offers opportunities to learn three traditional disciplines. Kendo is a modern martial art descended from kenjutsu, combining fitness with combat practice. Iaido teaches formal kata with a Japanese katana training sword and encourages self-discipline and reflection. Jodo uses a wooden staff in practice against the sword, bringing together swift movement and formal technique.
The WAKR provides membership registration and resources, lists club locations, and shares information about events and policies. Its clubs are based in Perth and the South West, including locations in Bunbury.
