Walcoin is an open-source digital currency focused on privacy, security, and decentralization. Launched in February 2018 as a fair, pre-announced release of CryptoNote reference code, it began without a premine or instamine, and its block rewards go to miners rather than a development fund. After disagreements over proposed changes, the Walcoin Core Team continued the project with community support and oversight.
The currency uses cryptographic techniques designed to keep transactions private, including mandatory minimum ring signature sizes and RingCT, which conceals transaction amounts. Its stated priorities are protecting users and their funds, making privacy accessible, and supporting a decentralized network. Walcoin also uses an accessible Proof of Work algorithm intended to enable mining on ordinary computers, and nodes can connect through I2P to help reduce exposure of sensitive information.
Walcoin offers downloadable wallet and software releases, including an Android application, along with release guidance and published verification hashes. Its development roadmap records completed upgrades, software releases, and ongoing plans, while development discussions and meeting logs are made publicly available.
