Born Waltraud Leuteritz in Hüttenrode in 1944, she studied mathematics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, earning a diploma in 1968, and completed her doctorate in natural sciences at Ilmenau University of Technology in 1976. In 1991, she received further doctoral qualifications and the right to teach in the philosophical and historical problems of mathematics at TU Dresden. Her research includes integral equations, finite groups, orientable surfaces, and graph theory, as well as the relationships among social practice, graph and network theory, and computer science.
