The Warblers is a Scottish charity offering welcoming singing groups for people with lung conditions or breathlessness, including those experiencing long COVID. Established in 2015 with seed funding from the British Lung Foundation, the organisation was founded in response to research on the potential benefits of regular group singing for people with COPD. Its sessions use gentle singing to support lung fitness and breathing patterns, while also providing opportunities for enjoyment and social connection.
No previous singing experience is needed: songs are taught by ear in a relaxed, supportive setting, and participants are encouraged to pace themselves according to their needs. The musical repertoire spans traditions from around the world, including Scottish, African and gospel songs. The Warblers meets in Musselburgh and Dalkeith, with both in-person and online sessions available.
It also shares videos of warm-up exercises and songs for people to use. As a small charity, The Warblers relies on funding and donations to keep sessions accessible and affordable for people with breathing or lung disorders
