WarDocs specializes in obtaining documents from foreign archives to support historical research and explosive ordnance detection. Its work focuses particularly on the air war of 1939–1945, using archival records to uncover details that literature, local documents and aerial photographs may not reveal. The site presents research, a document collection, case examples, and information about relevant records and audiences.
WarDocs is associated with researcher Hans Nauta, whose interest in the air war began in his youth and developed into archival research, including visits to The National Archives in London from 1989 onward. His research has led to articles on different aspects of the wartime air campaign, and he gives lectures to museums, libraries, regional archives and historical societies.
A key source highlighted by WarDocs is the Operations Record Book, maintained by Royal Air Force units at several levels, from Command and Group to Wing and Squadron. These documents can help researchers investigate air-war incidents and better understand what happened.
