About Wasaya Airways LP
Wasaya Airways LP is a First Nation-owned airline that provides essential transportation services to over 25 remote communities in Northwestern Ontario. With no road access to southern markets, suppliers, and manufacturers, Wasaya Airways plays a crucial role in delivering supplies like food, clothing, hardware, medical supplies, and more to these communities. Founded in 1989 as Kelner Airways and later renamed, Wasaya Airways is 100% owned by First Nation communities.
Its logo, depicting a sunburst with eight sunrays, represents each of the original owner communities. Initially focusing on charter and freight services, Wasaya Airways expanded its operations to include scheduled passenger services in 1995. Over the years, the company has established partnerships with various organizations to provide contract transportation services, ranging from employee transportation to tourist flights.
With a modern fleet including aircraft like Beech 1900D, Cessna C208B Caravan, Hawker Siddeley 748, Pilatus PC-12, Dash 8, and Dash 8 Freighter, Wasaya Airways ensures safe and efficient air transportation for its customers. In 2018, Wasaya Airways entered into a partnership with Exchange Income Corporation (EIC), further enhancing its level of service in Northern Ontario and benefiting both ownership and non-ownership communities.
