Washington Group on Disability

The Washington Group on Disability Statistics (WG) is an international collaboration focused on improving health statistics through reliable, comparable measures of disability. Its primary objective is to provide information that can be compared across countries, supporting the use of disability data in censuses and national surveys. The group develops and coordinates question sets, guidance, and analytical resources for national statistical offices, researchers, and other data users.

Its resources include the WG Short Set and Extended Set on Functioning, an enhanced short set, and modules developed with UNICEF on child functioning, inclusive education, and humanitarian contexts. The WG also offers a disability module for the ILO Labor Force Survey. Supporting materials cover implementation and translation guidelines, analysis methods, syntax, disability indicators, and country reports. The organization shares research and updates through publications, reports to the UN Statistical Commission, blog posts, news, events, online training, and webinars. It also collaborates with partners and regional groups, and provides translations and resources to help users apply its measures and interpret disability data.
