Waters Edge

Water’s Edge Consulting (WEC) is an aquatic science and water management consultancy led by Dr Rhonda Butcher. It integrates current environmental science with adaptive management principles to help water agencies develop practical approaches and build social licence across different scales of management. WEC emphasises early, consistent communication and collaborative relationships, working alongside clients to support informed decisions and strong project outcomes.

The consultancy offers expertise in aquatic ecosystem management, conservation ecology and planning, monitoring design and review, and program review and evaluation. Its services also include strategic planning, framework and strategy development, and participation in committees and advisory groups. WEC has a broad portfolio of completed projects and takes an applied approach, aiming to ensure that water resource management solutions are grounded, realistic and pragmatic.

For complex water management challenges, WEC builds and leads multidisciplinary teams of consultants, researchers and managers, matching expertise to project needs. These teams may draw on experience in government policy and program delivery, natural resource management, research, policy development and review, modelling, data collection and analysis, and evaluation. WEC has been building and leading such teams for over 20 years.
