Ellis County Martial Arts (ECMA) is a martial arts and self-defense training provider in Waxahachie, Texas. Guided by the motto โTraditional Values, Modern Concepts,โ the school emphasizes practical self-defense rather than sport or competition. Its offerings include karate, jiu-jitsu, Kenpo, tai chi, defensive tactics, and training related to law enforcement and executive protection. Classes are private, limited to two to six students, and taught by founder, owner, and Chief Instructor Richard Ray, known as Ray Sensei. ECMA states that it has no hidden or extra fees.
Ray Sensei has studied and taught martial arts for approximately 40 years and taught professionally in Ellis County for more than 30 years. His qualifications include an eighth-degree black belt in San Sai Ryu karate, a seventh-degree black belt in Kenpo karate, a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo, and a kyosei menkyo in kenjutsu. He is also a former police officer, a current Texas-licensed personal protection officer, and a certified classroom and firearms instructor.
