About FUNDACI
Fundación Wayanay is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of wildlife and marine fauna in the Tarapacá region, Chile, and throughout the country. They collaborate with various stakeholders such as companies, public and private institutions, schools, fishermen's unions, and the community to achieve their goals in a respectful and participatory manner.
The foundation focuses on conducting research to generate studies, programs, and projects related to biodiversity, fishing, and natural resource management. They also work towards mitigating environmental impact through museum management and the rehabilitation of wildlife. In addition, they promote and protect human rights, public integrity, the development and protection of indigenous peoples, and animal welfare.
Fundación Wayanay implements educational and training activities on the conservation and protection of marine and wildlife, targeting schools, fishermen's unions, neighborhood associations, trade associations, indigenous communities, and educational institutions.
Their main objective is the conservation and protection of the environment, wildlife, and marine fauna in the Tarapacá region and Chile as a whole. One of their flagship projects is the protection of the Black-browed Albatross through the establishment and development of a Seabird Rescue Center as part of their sustainability and environmental care plan.
The foundation is led by a team of experienced professionals, including Francisco Allendes Barros, a lawyer and master in natural resources and the environment, Elsa Aciares Godoy, an agronomical engineer, and Edgar Iligaray Koo, a lawyer and environmental advisor.
Fundación Wayanay is making strides in protecting marine birds and their habitat, as evidenced by the groundbreaking ceremony for the Seabird Rescue Center. They have received support from notable companies like Compañía Minera Cordillera and SQM, as well as the Ministry of Mining of Tarapacá.
