About Families Rising
Families Rising is a dedicated organization on a mission to empower families and professionals in the child welfare system. Founded in 1974 by adoptive parents, our core belief is that every child in foster care deserves a loving family. We advocate for family reunification whenever possible and support adoption as a vital option when reunification isn’t possible.
Our commitment extends to helping children develop both cultural and personal identity, offering support to all children in foster care and adoption experiences, including those who identify as LGBTQ. We also focus on building strong networks and advocating for policies that support children and families in foster care and adoption.
Our activities include educating professionals, supporting families, and advocating for children touched by the foster care system to thrive. We recognize the ongoing challenges due to trauma and emphasize the crucial role of post-adoption supports for healing and thriving families.
