About MOWAA
The Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) is a dedicated institution focused on preserving heritage, expanding knowledge, and celebrating the arts and culture of West Africa. Located in Benin City, Nigeria, we serve as a bridge between contemporary arts and the rich cultural heritage of the region. Our world-class campus offers exceptional infrastructure and diverse programs for preservation, research, learning, and cultural exchange.
Our team, led by Director Phillip Ihenacho, includes experts like Interim Head of Archaeology Charles LeQuesne and Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art Aindrea Emelife. With a strong advisory team and board of trustees overseeing our operations, we provide a platform for African and Diaspora artists and scholars to thrive.
Collaboration is key at MOWAA, and we work closely with institutions like the Whitney Museum of American Art and The British Museum to drive cross-border learning exchanges and capacity building. Join us in celebrating and exploring the vibrant heritage of West African art and culture.
