WEDINOS Project is a national initiative in Wales that aims to provide valuable information and harm reduction advice regarding new psychoactive substances (NPS) and unknown drugs. With a team of experts in medicinal chemistry, toxicology, and substance misuse, WEDINOS collects and tests samples submitted by individuals and organizations across the country. The project was initiated in 2009 to address the increasing number of cases in emergency departments where patients had consumed drugs but were unsure of their composition.

By analyzing the samples and identifying trends and harms, WEDINOS helps inform both immediate health concerns and long-term effects. Supported by Public Health Wales and the Welsh Government, WEDINOS offers a robust mechanism for testing substances and provides accurate information on chemical profiles and pragmatic harm reduction advice. Samples can be submitted by anyone in Wales, and participating organizations include substance misuse services, housing and hostels, education institutions, nightclubs, and even the police.
