NORFACE Welfare State Futures is an international research programme coordinated from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It brings together researchers to examine how welfare systems can respond to social and economic change, asking fundamental questions about their design, delivery and public experience in the 21st century. Rather than offering commercial products or services, the programme provides research, publications, policy analysis, workshops, training and opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Its work is organised around themes including health, migration, child and family welfare, welfare state attitudes, and the connections between globalisation, welfare states and inequalities. The programme shares findings through open-access data, working papers, policy briefs, thematic workshops, videos and other publications. Its research explores issues such as social solidarity, welfare reforms, labour markets, healthcare and the effects of austerity. The initiative also supports a research network and alumni community, and organises conferences and training activities. By connecting evidence with policy discussions, NORFACE Welfare State Futures aims to inform debate about the resilience and future direction of welfare systems, particularly in Europe.
