Wells City Carnival

Wells City Carnival Ltd organises Wells City Carnival, an annual illuminated procession that celebrates the West Country’s carnival tradition and brings the community together. Held in the historic city of Wells, the event features brightly lit floats, marching bands, musicians and dance acts travelling through medieval streets. It is part of the Guy Fawkes Carnival Circuit and the wider Somerset Carnivals, described by the organisers as the world’s largest illuminated processions. The carnival welcomes tens of thousands of spectators and draws participation from clubs, organisations and individuals across the region.

The organisation provides practical information for visitors, including procession routes, road closures, diversions, parking and public transport guidance. Its website also shares news, photographs, programme details and information about the carnival’s history, while inviting people to get involved and support the event through donations. For businesses, Wells City Carnival offers sponsorship and advertising opportunities, including placements in the carnival programme, website and social media, as well as announcements from the procession’s public-address vehicle.
