Wemcarnival

Wem Carnival is a community-run, not-for-profit event organised by a small, dedicated committee in Wem. Held on the first Saturday in September, it brings residents and visitors together for a day of parades, entertainment and fundraising. The programme typically includes an afternoon parade and an illuminated evening parade, featuring dance troupes, floats, marching bands, walking groups, fancy dress participants and carnival royalty. Parade entries are welcome across a range of categories.

The Carnival’s Gala Field, at Wem Sports & Social Club near Wem Swimming Pool, hosts local and independent traders, food trucks, live music, dance competitions, inflatables, animal displays, charity stalls and other family-friendly activities. The event also offers opportunities for businesses and community members to take part, exhibit, volunteer, sponsor activities or donate. Funds raised through field entry, donations and year-round activities support the cost of staging the Carnival and are reinvested in the event. Fundraising activities include an annual Duck Race, raffle, programme sales, local-event stalls, quiz nights and bingo.
