The Wentcher Foundation is a Chicago-area organization dedicated to helping academically strong students with high character and financial need access and complete higher education. Established by Ernie Wentcher, the foundation continues his belief that education can open opportunities and that students can achieve ambitious goals when supported. Its central program provides renewable scholarship awards, helping recipients enroll in college and focus on their studies.
More than 1,000 current scholars and alumni have benefited from these awards, and the foundation reports investing over $20 million in scholarships. Its scholars come from across Chicago, representing more than 36 ZIP codes and 61 of the city’s 77 community areas, and have attended more than 159 institutions nationwide. The foundation reports that 93% of Wentcher Scholars have graduated from college.
Beyond financial support, the organization shares scholars’ and alumni’s experiences and invites the community to contribute to scholar success. People can get involved by volunteering, providing internships, partnering with the foundation, or donating. The foundation also offers application resources and information for prospective scholars
