WePlan-Forests is a user-friendly decision-support platform for planning forest ecosystem restoration. It helps users explore restoration options through spatially explicit, multi-objective optimisation, comparing scenarios and targets to estimate potential climate mitigation and biodiversity benefits. The platform presents country-level results across 37 countries in Africa, Asia, Central America and Latin America, with up to 110 scenarios per country. Its planning solutions include estimates of restoration costs, area covered and carbon sequestration, helping users assess trade-offs among different restoration targets.

Since 2019, the Institute for Capacity Exchange in Environmental Decisions (formerly the International Institute for Sustainability Australia) and the International Institute for Sustainability Rio have partnered with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity to advance spatial optimisation planning for forest ecosystem restoration. The project is supported by the European Union and the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative, which is supported by the Korea Forest Service of the Republic of Korea. WePlan-Forests also provides information about its methodology, data sources and frequently asked questions, alongside country results for exploration.
