Werkholz is a Bonn-based woodworking business creating handmade urns from solid wood for people seeking a thoughtful way to preserve the memory of a loved one or companion animal. Inspired by the founders’ experience of losing their cat, the workshop began making distinctive urns for pets in 2017. Its range includes urns for animals, horses and people, with each piece designed to combine simple elegance with the natural character of the wood.

Every urn is made by hand in Werkholz’s Bonn workshop, where careful material selection and attention to detail shape each individual piece. Customers can choose materials and finishes, and the designs allow ashes to be accessed for partial removal or kept permanently enclosed. The company also supplies animal funeral professionals.

Werkholz uses wood from local forests and FSC-controlled sustainable sources, avoiding tropical woods, laminates and composite boards. It prioritizes short transport routes and materials described as ecologically safe and suitable for burial or keeping at home.
