West Coast Shoto Kan Karate-Do is a traditional Shotokan karate school in Delft and the Dutch branch of Shihan Ed Hamile’s West Coast Shoto Kan Karate-Do International. Founded in the Netherlands in 1981, the association is led by Sensei André Kila, a fifth-degree black belt. Its dojo offers karate training for children aged nine and older, teenagers, and adults, welcoming participants of all ages and experience levels.
Training develops both physical skills and mental qualities, reflecting karate’s balance of self-defence, discipline, and character development. Children are introduced to the art in a responsible, non-aggressive way, with classes supporting motor skills, fitness, confidence, and concentration. Adult training helps maintain physical condition and flexibility.
Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, with separate sessions for juniors and adults; additional adult and black-belt training is offered on Saturdays. Prospective members can attend three free trial lessons on Mondays or Wednesdays by contacting the school in advance. Monthly membership costs €25 for adults and €16.50 for juniors.
