West Coast Surf School is a surf coaching business based in Melkbosstrand, a relaxed coastal town on Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard. Founded by South African surfer Michael Moore, who has earned multiple national and provincial titles, the school welcomes learners of all ages and abilities, including children from age four. Its 90-minute beginner lessons introduce paddling, balance, board control, wave timing and the pop-up, with coaching that progresses at each learner’s pace.
Intermediate sessions build confidence in green waves and cover wave selection, turns, duck diving and surf etiquette. Advanced coaching focuses on reading swell, choosing breaks, refining manoeuvres and competitive strategy. The school also offers a high-performance program with three coached sessions each week, video analysis, land-based conditioning and small-group training.
Bookings include private and group lessons, family and student sessions, and corporate team-building experiences. Surfboards and wetsuits are available to rent. Its Surfing Social experiences include birthday parties, a holiday club with lunch, team-building events with photos, and West Coast Girls, a ladies-only option
