The Western Standard is an independent source of news and commentary dedicated to advocating for a strong and free Western Canada. With a commitment to the truth, even when it may be uncomfortable, the Western Standard opposes any government funding, regulation, or intervention of the press. Originally founded in 2004 as an unofficial successor to the Alberta Report, the Western Standard quickly emerged as one of Canada's largest magazines, boasting a bi-weekly subscription of over 40,000 readers.

Standing against government censorship, the Western Standard pushed the boundaries of mainstream media. Although it ceased operations in 2007, the Western Standard returned in October 2019 as an online news and opinion platform under the ownership of the Western Standard New Media Corporation. Since its relaunch, the platform has gained widespread popularity and is now one of the most-read news platforms in Western Canada.
