The West Liberty Historical Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to discovering, collecting, preserving, and sharing the history of West Liberty, Ohio, and the surrounding area. Its work includes researching local history and publishing findings, preserving oral histories, photographs, and other cultural records, and making these resources available to the public through local access and technology. The Society also supports the repair and restoration of historically significant buildings when funding allows.
A central focus is the restoration of West Liberty’s historic Town Hall. The final phase involves restoring its second-floor Opera House, building on earlier work supported by donations, grants, and contributions from the village and township. The Society is also working to convert the George Bailey House into a museum displaying artifacts from West Liberty and regional history. Its website shares local stories about places and events, including Enoch’s Mill, the Ohio Caverns, and the 1913 flood and train wreck.
