West Pierce Fire & Rescue

West Pierce Fire & Rescue is a public fire and emergency response district serving Lakewood, University Place, and Steilacoom, Washington. Created on March 1, 2011, through the merger of the Lakewood and University Place fire departments, the organization provides round-the-clock coverage from six strategically located stations. Its response fleet includes six engines, a ladder truck, five medic units, and two Battalion Chiefs, as well as marine boats and a brush engine that are staffed when needed.

Alongside emergency response, West Pierce Fire & Rescue offers community education and prevention programs. These include CPR and first aid classes, Safe Sitter, school programs, a youth academy, and a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The district also provides a Lake Addressing Program, permitting and code enforcement, emergency preparedness resources, safety information, and community services. It works with Lakewood, University Place, and Steilacoom through the West Pierce Emergency Management Coalition to coordinate preparation for and response to large-scale emergencies.
