WGMS

The World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) is a premier global hub for comprehensive glacier data dating back to 1894, established during the 6th International Geological Congress in Zurich. Over the years, the WGMS has evolved to collect standardized observations on glacier fluctuations, mass, volume, area, and length, becoming a key player in climate system monitoring. Under the auspices of leading organizations such as the ISC (WDS), IUGG (IACS), UNEP, UNESCO, and WMO, the WGMS is a certified repository, making it a trusted source of information.

With a focus on professional collaboration, the WGMS offers essential services for scientific analysis, political consultation, and capacity building activities. This competence center is your go-to partner for in-depth glacier information, ensuring reliable access to crucial data and insights.
