What If Farms

What If Farms, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit horse and donkey sanctuary in Stuart, Florida, providing permanent homes for equines who are unwanted, older, disabled, or otherwise in need of care. Its philosophy is that horses should be horses and donkeys should be donkeys: residents are not ridden or expected to perform, and are given freedom, choice, and respect.

The sanctuary provides spacious pastures, shelter, grazing and foraging, herd companionship, and opportunities for unrestricted movement. Its Paddock Paradise track encourages natural exploration, while caretakers support each animal’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being through individualized nutrition, veterinary and dental care, hoof trimming, holistic treatments, and enrichment. The farm also offers visitors educational opportunities to learn about its approach to equine care, while protecting the animals’ privacy and dignity.

What If Farms is sustained by donations, which support sanctuary maintenance and residents’ care. Supporters can make general gifts or sponsor a particular horse or donkey through monthly contributions for that animal’s health and quality of life.
