WhatIsLike

WhatIsLike is a game discovery platform designed to help players find games that match their tastes without relying on broad genre labels or ad-driven rankings. Players begin with a favorite game, and the service builds a profile from its genres, themes, world structure, game mode, perspective, platforms, and defining traits. They can then shape a personal “twist” by keeping traits, changing them, excluding them, or marking new preferences as required or preferred.

The platform ranks potential matches and explains why each game fits, highlighting shared game DNA, satisfied preferences, and trade-offs. Users can also explore games by category, genre, mood, or trait, or browse popular starting games for recommendations. Game data and images are provided by IGDB, an external source, rather than curated locally by WhatIsLike.

The site presents itself as a tool made for players, emphasizing transparent recommendations and tailored discovery. Its search and recommendation features depend on external data and services, which may occasionally be unavailable
