About Whippany Railway Museum
The Whippany Railway Museum has been preserving the history of New Jersey's railroads since 1965. Founded by former employees and volunteers of the Morris County Central, the museum started with a small collection of railroad memorabilia displayed in the Morristown & Erie freight house. In 1967, the museum and freight house were moved to their present site across from the passenger station.
After the Morris County Central ceased its operations in 1980, the museum found a new home in the old museum building at Whippany. The building was extensively renovated to house the museum's exhibits and collections. On October 26, 1985, the newly rebuilt Whippany Railway Museum held its grand opening.
Today, the museum offers a wide range of exhibits showcasing various equipment, engines, cabooses, passenger cars, and vintage farm tractors. Visitors can also enjoy special events like the Easter Bunny Express and Steampunk Theme Train Rides. The Whippany Railway Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich history of New Jersey's railroads for future generations
