Wichita Art Museum, founded in 1935, holds a distinguished history in South Central Kansas and the Midwest. The museum's initial impetus came from the bequest of Louise Caldwell Murdock and the establishment of the Roland P. Murdock Collection.

With a focus on American art, the prized collection is nationally recognized for its distinction and currently consists of 10,000 works. The museum's first Art Deco building opened in 1935, designed by New York architect Clarence Stein. Over the years, the museum expanded both its building and collection, with the City of Wichita and the community joining forces for multiple expansion projects.

Today, the museum stands as a public/private partnership owned by the City of Wichita and managed by Wichita Art Museum, Inc. With a dedicated board, staff, and volunteers, the museum offers remarkable experiences that connect people, ideas, and art.
