About Women in Film & Television New Zealand
WIFT NZ, also known as Women in Film and Television Incorporated, is a prominent not-for-profit organization committed to fostering an inclusive and thriving screen industry for women. With a mission to provide education, professional development, networking, and support services, WIFT NZ ensures that women and other professionals in film, television, and related industries feel welcomed and empowered. As part of a well-established global network of over 50 WIFT and WIFT-partner chapters, WIFT NZ has a membership base of more than 20,000 individuals.
The organization initially began with regional chapters, including WIFT Wellington in 1993, WIFT Auckland in 1995, and WIFT Christchurch in 1996. These chapters merged in 2009 to form WIFT NZ. WIFT NZ offers an array of services and benefits to its members.
These include informative workshops and events, exclusive purchasing discounts, regular newsletters, and invaluable networking opportunities. The organization operates under the guidance of a national board, with day-to-day operations overseen by the executive director and a dedicated staff. Notably, WIFT NZ has esteemed individuals supporting its cause, including Philippa Boyens as the WIFT NZ Patron and four Honorary Life Members: Fiona Milburn, Dame Gaylene Preston, Glenis Giles, and Robin Laing.
