About Wiki Loves Earth
Wiki Loves Earth is an annual international photo contest that focuses on natural monuments and protected areas. The contest encourages participants to capture the beauty of these areas and upload their photos to Wikimedia Commons. The aim of the project is twofold: to collect as many high-quality pictures of natural monuments as possible, and to raise public awareness about the importance of nature protection.
The uploaded photos are then used to illustrate articles on various Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikinews, and Wikiquote. Since its inception in 2013, Wiki Loves Earth has seen a steady increase in participation from countries around the world. Each year, more countries join the contest, resulting in a growing collection of stunning images.
In 2022, a record-high of 39 countries participated in the contest. With its focus on nature and environmental conservation, Wiki Loves Earth offers a unique platform for photographers and nature enthusiasts to showcase their talent and contribute to the preservation of our planet's natural heritage
