About Wiki Loves Monuments
Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photo contest organized by Wikimedia, the movement behind Wikipedia. This contest takes place in September and October and aims to collect and disseminate cultural heritage knowledge. Participants from over 40 countries can contribute by uploading images and writing articles about their national monuments.
The contest was inspired by a successful pilot in the Netherlands in 2010, resulting in thousands of freely licensed images that can now be used on Wikipedia. Since then, the project has expanded to include over 1. 7 million submitted pictures and information on 1.
5 million monuments from 76 national competitions. The international jury selects the best images, and extra prizes are awarded. Anyone can support the contest by uploading an image, spreading the word, or becoming a partner or sponsor.
