Wikimedia Portugal

Wikimedia Portugal is the Portuguese chapter of the Wikimedia movement, working to make knowledge and culture more widely available. Its mission is to encourage the collection, creation, and sharing of content that can be freely used, modified, and distributed, while promoting and supporting Wikimedia Foundation projects such as Wikipedia, with particular attention to Portuguese and Mirandese.

The organization supports community-led Wikimedia projects in Portugal, provides regular training on Wikimedia tools and free-knowledge topics, and partners with cultural heritage and education organizations to improve content on Wikimedia platforms. Its activities also include public initiatives such as the annual Public Domain Day, organized with the National Library of Portugal, which highlights Portuguese authors and works newly available for public use and invites people to help document and share them.

Wikimedia Portugal publishes news, organizes events and courses, and works to connect contributors, educators, cultural institutions, and the public. Through these efforts, it helps expand access to reliable, reusable knowledge and strengthen Portuguese-language representation across Wikimedia projects.
