Wild At Heart Horses

Wild At Heart Horses is an Australian initiative based in Upper Caboolture, Queensland, focused on equine-assisted therapy and the role brumbies can play in therapeutic work. It provides training for therapists and other professionals seeking to develop their skills in this field, as well as introductory and professional development workshops and webinars. Participation does not require active equine therapy practice, although attendees should be reasonably comfortable around horses.

The initiative promotes the inclusion of appropriately handled brumbies in animal-assisted therapy and shares practical knowledge about helping these wild-living horses transition to domestic life. Its approach aims to develop happy, confident horses that are comfortable around people and can work alongside clinicians. Wild At Heart Horses also occasionally offers project brumbies for adoption, specifically started for potential success in therapy settings.

The initiative is led by psychologist and animal-assisted therapist Samantha King, who has worked with horses in therapy and has experience training and handling brumbies. Its programs are intended to help health professionals integrate horses into goal-directed therapeutic practice.
