WildCRU

WildCRU is a renowned brand and the first university-based conservation research unit in Europe. Established in 1986 by David Macdonald, Oxford's first Professor of Wildlife Conservation, WildCRU aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical problem-solving to address the biodiversity crisis and wider environmental issues. As a world leader in the field, WildCRU's work is widely recognized and has received prestigious awards such as the Dawkins Prize for Conservation and the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher Education.

Based at the University of Oxford's Department of Zoology, WildCRU conducts impactful research and offers comprehensive training and education programs. Their research projects span across the globe, from the Scottish Highlands to Mongolia, West Africa, and Borneo. With over 50 researchers from more than 30 countries, WildCRU is now one of the largest and most productive conservation research institutes worldwide.

Recently, WildCRU's specialization in wild carnivores has led to a partnership with Panthera, aiming to become the leading university center for felid conservation research. Their base at the Recanati-Kaplan Centre, Tubney House, houses a dedicated team of experienced conservation biologists, doctoral students, field assistants, volunteers, and visiting collaborators.
