Wild Hearts Equine Connection offers ground-based Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) near Wānaka, in the Central Otago region of New Zealand. Led by owner and coach Toni Collins, the practice provides private and small-group sessions for children, teens and adults, including The Horse Wisdom Programme. Participants learn alongside a team of horses and therapy animals through activities such as observing, grooming and leading horses; riding is not part of the sessions.
The programmes support practical life skills and personal growth, including confidence, self-awareness, emotional regulation, communication, healthy boundaries, relationship-building, resilience and problem-solving. EAL may suit people seeking support with stress, anxiety, grief, self-esteem, or social and emotional skills associated with autism and ADHD. Each session offers time to slow down, reflect and explore experiences in a safe, private and supportive environment. No referral is required, and activities are adapted to participants’ needs and interests. Collins’s background includes education, social work, applied psychology and postgraduate training in Equine-Assisted Learning, along with certification as a Horse Wisdom Programme practitioner.
