The Wilhelmina Foundation is a Florida nonprofit founded by attorney Sean Pittman in honor of his mother, Wilhelmina Pittman. Its mission is to help college students across Florida who struggle to afford required textbooks. The foundation grew from Pittman’s own experience as a working student at Florida State University.
Although he worked and obtained loans to cover tuition, he often could not afford books, while his mother worked hard to support him and his siblings as a single parent. Recognizing that students continue to face similar financial challenges, Pittman established the foundation to provide textbook scholarships and purchase books for students in need. Through this support, the organization aims to ease a specific but important barrier to college study and honor the efforts of the woman who helped raise its founder.
The foundation invites students to apply and provides access to a 2025 application. Based in Tallahassee, Florida, it also welcomes inquiries from students and others interested in its work
