Williamsburg History

Welcome to your History - Williamsburg History. Like most communities that were formed in the 1600's in what is now America - these early Ancestors made their way day to day off the land and the sea. The sea in our area being the James, York, and Chickahominy Rivers and all the land in between that we now refer to as Williamsburg. The Rivers were the roads and these Ancestors traversed back and forth - making their homes by fame, fortune, force, fight and might. We explore all that here at Williamsburg History as we save history that has been lost to time. We are thrilled that our favorite "Olde" Williamsburg Families share information, maps, recollections and oral history so untold family stories can be told again. We encourage you to check back frequently on our social media pages and our website as we are lucky to be continually given these Ancestor gems to share with those who are seeking answers to their lineage and ancestor travel lines. Please join us as we discover the Ancestors - the People, their Place, and map their journey with us as we find your story - your WILLIAMSBURG HISTORY. www.williamsburghistory.org

About Williamsburg History
Williamsburg History is a history and genealogy resource focused on the people, places, and family stories of Williamsburg, Virginia, and the surrounding region. Its work explores the area’s roots in the 1600s, when rivers such as the James, York, and Chickahominy served as vital routes for travel and trade, and communities grew across the land between them. The site invites visitors to investigate their ancestors and connect family histories to the places where those lives unfolded.
Williamsburg History provides research, links, photographs, and other tools to help people develop their own family stories. Its resources cover descendant families, Native descendants, and longtime Williamsburg families, as well as locations including James City County, York County, and Williamsburg. Historical mapping spans the 1600s, 1700s, and 1900s, helping visitors trace people and places across time. The project aims to bring together both familiar and lesser-known research, recognizing that a fuller account of local history depends on exploring many stories. Visitors can contact the site with questions or support its work through donations.
